Mitsuoka is a small car manufacturer in Japan, specializes in making cars that make driving a lot fun. This time they present their first mini kit car, the MC-1.
At L1755xW1080xH1470, the MC-1 has a unique
body styling and a 50cc air cooled engine. The car is for one person only. The small body, styling and easy handling, make it perfect for narrow roads and busy cities. It is very useful for going around the block and parking can't be easier.
The body was designed using an image of a dog, preserving the cuteness and beauty of the animal. It is possible to choose from 8 different colors and there are plenty of optional parts that can be put on the car in order to make it more original and to fit the driver's taste. The driver's seat's design is also very neat. The fuel gauge and the wipers are set were it is easy to operate them. The meter panel is big and easy to read. The speedometer is in the middle and the fuel gauge in on the side. Driving is just like driving a normal car. There are only two gears, forward and reverse. Right next to the driver's seat is the hand brake. In the back, there is storage space for small items.
The engine is a Mitsuoka original engine with power of 6.1ps/6500 rpm and a 7kg/6000rpm. The body is very light 160kg. All these ingredients make a car that is very nice to ride.
When I first saw the car with my own eyes, it was much bigger than I imagined. A long time ago there was a micro car based on a Honda scooter. That car was called Bubu, which what the Japanese babies call a car when they learn to speak. I drove that as well and the new MC-1 is at least one size bigger than that. I was a bit worried about getting my 178cm into the car but to my surprise I did not have any problem getting in and it did not feel tight either. There was enough head clearance and it seemed that even on a bumpy road, my head's shape will not be "re-designed" by the car's roof. The inside of the MC-1 felt very familiar, just like a normal car and I did not need any explanation regarding it's operation. I fastened the seat belt, turned the key and was on my way. The engine had the distinctive sound of a two stroke engine and wasn't noisy at all. Before I got in the car I thought it will probably be very slow and I was quite surprised at the sharp start when I stepped on the accelerator. The handling was even smoother than I thought when I read the press release. The car handled beautifully around the curves and I could make a U-turn just about anywhere. The main problem surfaced when I was driving along straight roads. It felt as if the car is not 100% stable. It was a bit frightening to go at full speed.
The thing that impressed me the most was the fact that every single person who saw the car, turned his head to take another look ? men, women, kids, the whole lot. At traffic lights, and whenever I stopped the car, people came up to me and started asking questions about the car.
All in all, I found the MC-1 very pleasant to drive around even though I wouldn't take it out for any long trips. If you want people to notice you, this is certainly the car to have !
